Tallyman Competition Information & Entry Form
This is an opportunity that Fylde offers to young performers up to the age of eighteen to perform and be given constructive help by skilled folk artists acting as judges. The competition is light-hearted and is run quite informally, but the talent that has been discovered in the past years has produced winners who are fast becoming household names in the folk world.
There are two sections to the competition: one is for those who are under twelve, and those who are over twelve and under eighteen. We recognise the difference that age makes to performance, and have built into the scheme a structure of marks that allows all entrants to compete equally. The competition is open to individual performers or to groups - again, allowances are made in the judges instructions. Where an older person acts as accompanist or as a group member, that person's performance will not count towards the score.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded in each group. The best overall performance is awarded the Tallyman Trophy for one year; the winner of the trophy performs the winning entry in the Final Fylde Festival Concert. Other entrants may be offered spots in the New Generation Concert, Fylde's showcase for new talent.
